Can Bowen Therapy Relieve Golfer's Elbow?
Golfer's Elbow also known as Medial Epicondylitis can be a very painful and debilitating injury. It can develop from any activity involving repetitive use and twisting of the wrist and forearm.
What is Golfer's Elbow?
Golfer's Elbow is caused by tears in the tendons that join the muscles of the forearm to the medial i.e. inside of the elbow, hence also called Medial Epicondylitis.
Causes of Medial Epicondylitis/Golfer's Elbow
It is caused by repetitive use and straining of the forearm, elbow and wrist resulting in inflammation and tears in the tendons.
Commonly found in Golf players hence the name but any racquet sport (Squash, badminton), throwing sports (Javelin and Discus) and in fact even excessive clicking away on a keyboard may develop into this. It is also fairly common among guitar and other string musicians.
It is also associated with professions where one is required to grip tightly and perform repeated action i.e. carpenter, mechanic, builder etc...
Early Symptoms of Medial Epicondylitis
Characterised by pain on the inside of the upper forearm near the medial epicondyle. Experiencing pain while moving and bending the arm, lifting things, twisting, tightly gripping etc...
How Can Bowen Therapy Help with Golfer's elbow/Medial Epicondylitis?
Bowen therapy is a natural and gentle way to manage musculo-skeletal injuries. The Bowen moves act directly through (the nerves in the fascia onto) the nervous system by relaxing and soothing it, which in turn relaxes and reduces the inflammation and pain in the arm snd elbow joint.
With rest, most injuries will heal by themselves within a year, it can typically take 6 months to 2 years to fully heal. However with the Bowen Technique recovery time is considerably less.
If you suffer from medial epicondylitis or know someone who suffers from this debilitating condition please help them by telling them about Bowen Therapy.
Please note that Bowen does not replace proper medical intervention in the case of a serious injury.
